Private Forums

Can we install UserVoice on our servers?
No. UserVoice is Software as a Service (SaaS) so we host and manage the software on our servers.
Can I use UserVoice behind a firewall?
Yes. See next question ...
Does UserVoice Have Private Forums?

Yes, some things are best discussed privately. We have three ways to create private forums:

  1. Invitations. Create an invitation only forum, so only those that you send an invite through our invitation service would be allowed to have access to your forum. You can specify individual emails or upload a spreadsheet of email addresses.
  2. By Email Domain. Allow only those users that have signed up and confirmed emails on set of domains that you define .(ex. @yourdomainaddress.com).
  3. Single Sign-On. Use Single Sign On to allow only users already using your website or service to have access to the forum. Single Sign On allows users to transition seamlessly from your site to UserVoice without the requirement of another registration or login.
Is access to UserVoice secure?
Yes, we use Industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 256-bit encryption to create secure user environment.

Single Sign-On

What Is Single Sign On?

Simply put, this eliminates the need of users being forced to create a new login and password for UserVoice. Your customer can now seamlessly jump from your website to the UserVoice forum and back without having to remember another password!

Improves your user experience, increases the level of feedback (less friction to deal with), and its quite simple to implement.

How does Single Sign On Work?
We provide tools that make is easy to pass along your user’s authentication records via an encoded parameter (either in an url or via the widget) - you can also pass along an email, display name, access rights, and/or an avatar.

Customization & Design

Can I Customize The Feedback Widget?

Currently no, but we are working on some cool new widgets that will allow for customization as well as the ability to make suggestions, vote on ideas, send a comment, and report bugs.

Can I change the “I Suggest You…” text?
Yes. From within the Admin Console, choose Forums > Forum Name > Edit > Custom Text. This area reveals the default text which you can edit as needed.
Can I Custom Design A UserVoice Forum?

Absolutely - with our Gold & Platinum products you’ll have access to a template & CSS to recreate your company’s own unique brand experience. See examples:

  1. www.ideasforseattle.org
  2. feedback.fliggo.com
  3. feedback.animoto.com
  4. feedback.redbeacon.com
How do I change my user Avatar?
User Avatars (Profile Pictures) are currently being imported from an open service called Gravatar. You simply register an email address with an image and our service will automatically pull in your new Avatar. See http://gravatar.com for further instructions.
What Does, "White Labeled" Mean?
This is the ability to remove all references to UserVoice including our "powered by" badges. Perhaps you are an Agency in need of providing a feedback solution for a client? You could easily create a custom product for your customer and brand it as if it were your own service!
What does it mean when the forum is "Ad-Free"?
This removes the green stripe off the sidebar that says, "Want your own forum like this?"

Widgets

Do I have to use the "feedback" tab on my site?

No, you do not. We provide a simple widget that installs with a few lines of Javascript, but you could use any graphic or link to make it work. Or just provide a simple hyperlink! It’s completely up to you.

When you signup you'll get the code for a custom widget in your welcome email.

Does UserVoice have a WordPress Plugin?
Yes, there are third party offerings available for installing the UserVoice widget Go Here

Features

What kind of Analytics does UserVoice offer?
At this time, voter trending, average vote counts, idea scores & activity scores are offered - in the future we intend to build these tools out to display richer data sets for power users. With higher service levels we allow APIs to pull data out. In theory, you could also pull data out to generate your own metrics, or simply send the information to a CRM package.
How does Moderation work?

Currently moderation is user based - users can flag items as spam or inappropriate. From the Admin Console you can select the Moderation tab and go through all flagged content for verification, reversal or deletion.

In the near future we plan to offering more solutions for more classic moderation.

What Is Domain Aliasing?

This is the customization of the URL that you will direct customers to, so instead of sending users to http://yourcompany.uservoice.com you could change the domain to http://feedback.yourcompany.com

This will require altering the CNAME record on your DNS, so if you’ve never done this before, please consult your domain hosting provider.

What Does "Profile Integration" mean?
Perhaps your service already offers user profiles on your site? Wouldn’t it be nice to pass along vote counts, idea scores or other activities from the feedback forum into your user’s profile? This way ideas can become viral from within the community as one users sees someone else’s idea and chooses to join the conversation!

Voting

Do users get 10 votes per Portal of is it per Forum?
Each user gets 10 votes (or whatever your default setting for votes is) per forum.
Can I change the default number of votes?
Yes, on certain premium plans. The default limit is 10 votes which limits users, on average, to their top 3.3 ideas.

API

Does UserVoice have A Public API?
Coming soon…
What can I do with the Private API?
You can recreate most of the functionality (ex. search, submit suggestion, voting, etc) of your UserVoice forum. It also allows you to export data for either back up or syncing the data to a CRM/data warehouse for custom reports.

Import / Export

Can I seed the Forum with a bunch of ideas before launching?
Yes, you can batch upload ideas from a CSV template we’ve created in your Admin Console > Forums > Forum Name > Edit > Batch Upload Ideas — Download Template.
Can I export to Excel?
Yes. Supporter information (emails) for individual suggestions as well as a master user list from your forum that includes username, email, activity score, idea score and last activity can be exported.

Subscription Plans

How do you define a "Voter?"
A Voter is any user, anonymous or registered, that has voted for an idea on your forums in a month. On average, 3-7% of your active users will become voters at any given time.
What happens if I go over the Voter limit?
We'll contact you via email to let you know and work things out from there. Your service will continue unchanged and you'll have 15 days to upgrade before we turn off new voting -- but relax if you're using your forum for non-commercial purposes and/or doing something cool, we're likely to upgrade you for free. We're here to help you succeed.
What if I have multiple products?

Each UserVoice account is set up on a single portal with one domain (youraccount.uservoice.com), and one design.

If you don't require separate branding for each product, then you can have a single company-wide UserVoice account, and create multiple forums for each of your products.

If you want a separate domain, design, or set of admins for each product, then you'll want to create an individual portal for each product.

Confused? Contact our friendly sales people and we'll walk you through it.

How does the 15-day free trial work?
If you cancel a paying plan within 15 days of signing up, you won’t be charged a thing. If you choose to cancel your account in the future, you will not be charged the following month. Refunds can not be issued after your initial 15 day trial and we don't prorate for partial months.
Do I get a 15-day free trial if I upgrade?
If you upgrade from a free account to a paid account, you are not eligible for the 15-day free trial. The 15-day free trial only applies if you sign up for a paying plan now. And yes, you can downgrade later if you need to.
